Review of Bluetooth Laser Distance Meters in 2025

Laser Distance Meters in 2025

Bluetooth connection between the laser distance meter and a mobile device provides you with the possibility to use the measurement apps and therefore to improve the efficiency of your survey work. Which model to choose? In this article we reviewd 49 models of Bluetooth laser distance measuring devices from 10 leading manufacturers, at various levels of sophistication and price, of different intended usage and build quality. In a tables we presented most important parameters that should help you to choose the laser distance meter that best suits your needs.

Bosch laser meters

Bosch is a widely known and reputable manufacturer of various tools for professional or DIY use. They offer a range of laser distance meters of different complexity and in different price ranges. Their tools are widely used throughout the world and therefore are well tested by a large community of amateur and industry users. Their products come in two basic series:

Bosch green (DIY) series

Green series laser meters were formerly known as PLR models, while nowadays they come in two lines called Universal Distance and Advanced Distance. The suffix C indicates models that support Bluetooth connection. The models are marked with numbers that correspond to their maximum distance measurement range (40 to 60 m). Measurement accuracy, beam visibility and measurement times are similar in all the models and can be considered as sufficient for most uses. The figures are getting worse in difficult conditions like high ambient light, extreme temperature, low air pressure at high locations or very weakly reflecting target. Such behavior is not a weakness, it is normal for laser devices.

According to manufacturer, these devices are intended for indoor use only, which should probably be connected with lack of IP tightness certificate of the housing.

Simpler Universal Distance units do not measure the inclination angle and therefore have no capabilities for indirect measurements. They are very simple in use, small and light, what could be found as an advantage by some.

The higher Advanced Distance models measure inclination angle and have additional functions to measure various kinds of indirect distances. They have more modern design with touchscreen and a single measurement button in contrary to their cheaper colleagues with more traditional membrane keyboards. It comes at the cost of higher power consumption, they need three AAA batteries in contrary to the two in Universal Distance meters.

To summarize, Bosch green series laser meters are reasonable choice for someone that accepts their limited functionality and does not necessary need the endurance of the professional tool. They allow you to perform proper distance measurements at a fair price. More information can be found in Bosch DIY - Laser and Angle Measures site.

Bosch blue (Professional) series

The meters in blue series are marked GLM, followed by a number corresponding to a maximum distance measurement range (50, 100 or 150 m). The addition -25 or -27 differentiate current models from their older versions. The suffix C at the end indicates that the device supports Bluetooth connection. The letter G at the very end says that the measure has a green laser instead of typical red one.

Distance accuracy, measurement sensitivity and times are similar in all the models and can be considered as good. Like in other devices, the quality figures are getting worse in difficult conditions. All GLM devices measure inclination angle which can be used to calculate indirect distances or turn the measure into an electronic level.

The manufacturer intends these meters for both indoor and outdoor use, as indicated by tightness certificate IP 65 or IP 54. In practice the most important factor for the outdoor use is the visibility of the laser beam in the sunlight. You will read later how was this problem addressed in various models.

GLM 50-27 C and GLM 50-27 CG are basically the same with the exception that the latter uses a green laser to increase beam visibility. Why that? Normally measuring devices use Class 2 lasers and the power of light source must be limited to 1 mW. With that limitation, the only way to increase the perceived brightness of laser beam is to use green color, because human eye is more sensitive to it compared to red. The CG model is therefore more suited for the outdoor work with a considerably “lighter” beam. Don’t expect miracles however, at full sun the green dot will also disappear at some distance.

The 50 m models are best suited for dirty construction site areas. Their housings are very tight and durable, they keep firmly in hand even with gloves on. According to manufacturer they survive a fall from 1,5 m.

GLM 100-25 C and GLM 150-27 C are more delicate, although they still offer good level of stiffness and protection against dust and water. Instead, they can measure at significantly longer distances of 100 to 150 m. The digital viewfinder with zoom, together with a bright color display, make them perfect for serious outdoor measurements. Foldable foot helps to keep measurement precision.

All four measures are powered by AA batteries and the -27 ones can be additionally equipped with a dedicated, rechargeable Li-Ion battery.

In conclusion, Bosch GLM laser measures are considerably more expensive than the green devices. For this price they offer the features that are not available in cheaper models, but may be crucial in some uses. These include long measured distances, high endurance and tightness, and ability to efficiently work in sunny outdoor environment. Learn more on the Bosch Professional - Laser Measures site.

Dewalt Laser Tapes

Dewalt is a well known manufacturer of high quality tools. They have three models of laser measures with Bluetooth connection, marked as Tool Connect. The entry model DW099S has rather low measuring range of 30 m. The medium model DW03050-XJ has a measuring range of 50 m and full set of measuring functions expected from the usable instrument. The highest model DW03101-XJ increases the maximum measuring distance to 100 m. It looks like there is no model in the offer that is equipped for outdoor measurements.

It should be noted that the informations provided by manufacturer on their websites are very limited and additionally the unusually variable prices of the same units between the various dealers make it difficult to reveal the intended pricing politics. More information can be found at Dewalt - Distance Measuring for USA and at Dewalt Germany for european countries (select your country from the menu).

Laserliner distance meters

Laserliner has a wide range of measurement equipment and laser tools. Their focus is innovation and high quality as indicated by 4 years warranty given to all their products. Interestingly, Laserliner is a part of UMAREX company, a well known manufacturer of sport and hobby weapons and accessories.

Their laser distance meters belong to two lines called LaserRange-Master (LRM) and DistanceMaster (DM); each of them has some models that support Bluetooth connection. They are marked on the housing with a small blue icon with letters DC for "Digital Connection" (older models have a standard Bluetooth icon). A notable fact is that all Laserliner Bluetooth devices have inclination angle sensor and send angle data together with distance. Some models are available, for an additional fee, with ISO calibration certificate, see Conrad website.

The entry level model LRM T4 Pro is one of the smallest units presented in this guide. Despite the size the meter has an impressive variety of calculation features controlled by very small but cleverly organised touchscreen. A little confusing might be that the standard instrument state is continuous measurement - one has to get used to it.

The higher models LRM Gi7 and LRM Gi8 have more classical interface with function buttons. A letter G informs that they both have a green laser which is good for outdoor measurements in sunny days. The Gi8 has slightly longer measurement range (80 m), tighter enclosure with IP 66 and internal, rechargable Li-Ion pack.

The DistanceMaster series starts with DM Compact Pro model, a successor of DM Compact Plus and DM Compact Plus 50 models that disappeared from Laserline offer according to their newest product catalogues. The interesting feature in this model is reflection indicator that is supposed to show how good the surface is for the laser distance measurement. The DM Live Cam is the top model with 150 m range, digital viewfinder for outdoor work and battery charger. It is advertised to have a P2P function, what means that the unit measures horizontal angle.

Leica laser meters

Leica Geosysytems is focused on the advanced measurement solutions for geodesy and construction market. Among other equipment they offer high quality laser measures of various sophistication levels. Long time experience and high reputation of the company make its products one of the first choices for professionals.

All laser distance meters from Leica belong to product series named DISTO. The marking system of the DISTO models might seem confusing at the first sight. The models are marked with letter D, X, or S and followed by a number. When sorted by the number alone we obtain an array of units with increasing complexity (and price):

Altough all the above listed models can still be purchased new, Leica decided to simplify the offer and the items shown here in non-bold are now discontinued. So for 2025 there are 6 models left on the list:

As seen in the above list, two series that carry some distinct features can be distinguished :

Information flyers, brochures, user manuals and technical data about all current and discontinued Leica models can be found at DISTO support pages.

Leica D series

The regular line of laser meters starts with DISTO D1 model, that is basically only measuring distances. It looks quite poor for today, so Leica introduced model DISTO D110 with increased measurement range, basic area calculations and better design. DISTO D2 is the first step into professional world with features like measurement range of 100 m, calculation of area and volume, indirect measurements with Pythagoras formula, continues measurement with min/max, addition/substraction calculations. It is equipped with foldable foot that facilitates instrument alignment. DISTO D5 is fully equipped top level device with 200 m distance range at high accuracy, inclination angle sensor, wide range of calculation methods and digital viewfinder that saves your life on sunny days when laser spot becomes invisible.

Leica X series

The extra durable DISTO X lasers have IP 65 protection class and according to manufacturer they survive drop from 2 m. The device will not slip out of your hand thanks to the rubber coating of the housing. The display and keaboard seem to be well protected too.

The X series share one more feature - they allow for "P2P" measurements. It means that these devices can be mounted on 2-axis rotation adapter to form an instrument that records horizontal and vertical angles together with the distance. Together with the proper software it gives the opportunity to reveal 3D coordinates of the measured points. The following adaprers are offered:

DISTO X3 starts the series as a device with already very good parameters for indoor use, while discontinued DISTO X4 provided additionally a digital viewfinder that allows for efficient work in outdoor environment.

DISTO X6 is a top model equipped with everything one might need from a laser distance meter, with 250 m distance range at high accuracy, inclination angle sensor, wide range of calculation methods, digital viewfinder and possibility to enter the 3D world with use of DST 360-X adapter.

Leica discontinued models

Altough these models are discontinued, they appear to be still offered new by some dealers. They could be a viable option to buy, especially with the price discount, but one should be aware of potential risks, especially regarding software updates and other support aspects. DISTO X4 could be a reasonble replacement for DISTO X3 as it has a viewfinder. For DISTO D510 and DISTO D810 the safest approach woud be probably to go for similar models from current production i.e. DISTO D5 and DISTO X6, again depending on the price relations and the needs. S910 is the top of the tops device with no replacement in the current offer of Leica. Similar functionality could be obtained by using DISTO X6 mounted on DST 360-X adapter.

Mileseey laser measures

According to official website, Mileseey currently offers two lasers for indoor use and two for outdoor use. Their offer is in contrast to what can be found elsewhere on the market, where much more models can be found, that are probably already discontinued. The comparison between the models is hard as the company has a habit of not printing the model name on the housing and at the same time naming the same looking model differently. Nevertheless, they offer some interesting and innovative devices at reasonable prices. Learn more about the on Mileseey Tools - Laser Measures website.

The D9 Pro and DP20 Pro models for indoor measurements utilise additional bilateral lasers for better instrument alignment in difficult conditions. DP20 Pro has the unique ability to do two-way measurement using two laser beams.

The S7 model (also seen marked as S20) is designed for outdoor engineering with 100 m measuring range and viewfinder with 2 x zoom. In model P9 "P" stands for "Perfect", it is designed for serious outdoor survey with 200 m measuring range (300 m for US), has a viewfinder with 4 x zoom and larger display. Both outdoor units have IP 65 protection, 360° tilt sensor and plenty of additional measurement functions, including P2P measurement that probably utilises position sensors to reveal horizontal angle changes.

Würth laser meters

The lowest model WDM 3-19 has a range of 100 m and ISO 16331-1 measurement accuracy certificate. This model seems not to be supported by Würth mobile application, but instead to connect as a Bluetooth keyborrd. The next in a row WDM 6-22 has 150 m range with 1,0 mm accuracy and inclination measurement. The long measurement ranges of these models are difficult to utilise without viewfinders, so should be rather treated as a guarantee of measurement accuracy at lower distances but at difficult measurement conditions. The WDM 8-14 with 200 m measurement range is ISO-certified. The top model WDM 9-24 is fully equipped for outdoor use and is described by manufacturer as "3D-ready", that suggests some possibility for P2P measurements. The excellent parameters of the Würth instruments are accompanied by respective prices. Read more at Würth laser distance meter.
